Wedding Cake
A
wedding cake is the traditional cake served to the guests at a wedding
breakfast, after a wedding. It is usually a large cake, multi-layered or
tiered, and heavily decorated, often with icing over a layer of
marzipan, topped with a small statue of a bride and groom. Other common
motifs include doves, gold rings and horseshoes, the latter symbolizing
good luck. The traditional fruit cake is still the most popular. There
are other options available consist of chocolate, white or orange mud
cake or sponge cake.
Cake
toppers span traditional to funky designs. Many cake toppers can also be
customized in a whimsical fashion patterned after the bride and groom.
Some brides also choose cake toppers that are family heirlooms. Glass or
crystal toppers are also popular choices, many of which come in a
variety of forms, such as swans. When looking to achieve a dramatic
look, some brides also opt to have a replica of their wedding bouquet as
the choice for their cake topper – often rendered in sugar or real
flowers. For a cake topper with a humorous twist, some couples also
select their favorite childhood heroes or characters
